When Private Equity Takes Over a Nursing Home

Time for banks to ramp up their environmental, social, and governance oversight program to keep these firms from getting loans. After an investment firm bought St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged, in Richmond, Virginia, the company reduced staff, removed amenities, and set the stage for a deadly outbreak of COVID-19. Bathroom Remodel Project – Week 9

Except for the tub, it’s done! We got to move back into our bedroom and enjoy the slightly upgraded shower. Our apologizes to the neighbors fro cutting the water pressure for the neighborhood in half for a while.

Bathroom Remodel Project – Week 8

Nearing the finish line. The painting is done, the countertop is on, the electrical is done, and the faucets are done. The tub had to be replaced as it was cracked, but we don’t really use it much, so it won’t hold things up. The shower glass should be in next week, and then we’re done. Now it’s time to...

Here’s some photos of additional wall prep before the tile work started. Next, they installed the coils for the heated floor and then...

Farewell, Pocket Fisherman

I remember the ads, but I never knew the full story of Ron Popeil. I love how the obituary links to Dan Akryod’s Bass-O-Matic sketch. It also doesn’t seem out of place to read about his stepmother taking out a contract on her husband and later remarrying him. Inventor, TV pitchman and salesman extraordinaire Ron Popeil became a familiar presence...
